Wedding rings
Two rings that belong together
Wedding rings are worn every day, often for fifty years. That changes everything about how they are built: proportion, weight, edges, finish. A ring you forget you are wearing, because it feels right.
What a pair is made of
Metal
Yellow, white and rose gold in 18ct, platinum for those who want to feel the weight. Fairtrade gold, or the melted gold of your own inherited piece.
Profile and finish
Round, flat, domed. Polished, matte, hammered. This decides everyday life more than any other detail: how the ring feels when you take hold of something.
The one difference
Usually the two rings share one detail and differ in everything else. A stone set on the inside, known only to one of you, is among the loveliest possibilities.
The path
- Conversation
The two of you, unhurried
In the atelier, at your home, or by video call. I bring samples to try on, so you see width and profile on your own hand rather than in a photograph.
- Design
Two rings, one idea
You get sketches and, where it helps, a model to wear. We change it until it sits.
- Workshop
Made by hand
Four to six weeks, longer for elaborate work. Then the engraving, and the polish last.
Frequent questions
What couples ask me
- When should we start?
- Three to four months before the wedding is relaxed. If it has to move faster it usually can — the choice of stones simply narrows.
- What does a pair cost?
- The price comes from metal, weight and stones, not from a name on a box. Tell me the order of magnitude and I will show you what turns out well within it.
- Do both rings have to match?
- No. With most couples the rings share one detail and differ in everything else: a width, a finish, an alloy, a stone set on the inside.
- Can we use old gold?
- Yes, and I often recommend it. The gold from an inherited piece is melted down and goes into the new rings. It is the most sustainable source there is, and it carries a story forward.
- Engraving?
- Inside, outside, in handwriting or as a fingerprint. The engraving is the part couples discuss longest and the part that means most later.
- What if the ring size changes?
- Rings live along with you. The first resizing is included; later ones I do at the cost of materials.
