Since 1837
Five generations,
one hand
From a jewellery manufactory in Hanau by way of the ateliers of the Place Vendôme and the Gebrüder Hemmerle shop in Munich to my own atelier in the Kunstareal today: the story of MXHM does not begin with a brand but with a family and its appetite for extraordinary stones.
The path
-
1837G. A. Korff
Gustav Korff, my forebear, founds a jewellery manufactory in Hanau. The beginning lies neither in Munich nor in a brand, but in a workshop.
-
1893Gebrüder Hemmerle
Joseph and Anton Hemmerle take over a Munich goldsmith's specialising in medals and orders of merit. Their most important client is the Bavarian royal family, and the Prince Regent grants the title of Purveyor to the Bavarian Court.
-
1920Place Vendôme
My maternal grandfather becomes one of the most influential jewellery designers of his time, working for Van Cleef & Arpels, Boucheron, Sterlé, Boivin, Cartier and Harry Winston, and for Grace Kelly and the Duchess of Windsor.
-
1937The next hand
Carl Hemmerle, Anton's son, takes over the management. The house remains what it is: a workshop that works for a few.
-
1960 – 2000International renown
My father Franz Hemmerle, trained as a goldsmith and designer, leads Gebrüder Hemmerle to international recognition. After thirty-three years together the brothers separate in business.
-
2010 – 2018The detour through the digital
I found RENÉSIM and build one of the first and most successful high-end online jewellers in Europe. The company passes to investors. The buying network that grew out of it I carry with me to this day.
-
2018MXHM
Back to the atelier. Jewellery from one person to another, without a catalogue and without a sales team. The best part of this craft lies in the conversation a piece grows out of.
Stones I hold in my own hand
Hong Kong, Bangkok, Colombo, selected mines. I travel several times a year to the most important trading centres in the world, on relationships my family has kept for decades. Some clients come along.
What follows from it
I grew up between sketches, a loupe, the workshop and the shop. After a short stop in the Paris fashion world and building Europe's first online luxury jeweller, I chose the artistic route deliberately: one person to talk to, one craft, one piece, yours.
Let's talk
Every piece begins with a conversation
A first conversation is free of obligation and entirely confidential. In Munich, wherever you are, or online. No catalogue, no sales team.
