I am Maximilian Hemmerle von Heckel, a fifth-generation jeweller. My family has made jewellery since 1837, in Munich since 1893 and in Paris since 1920. At MXHM, engagement rings, necklaces, malas and one-off pieces come into being that exist exactly once: I choose the stone, design the piece and direct the specialists who make it.
Every piece begins as a drawing. I paint my designs by hand in gouache, in the tradition of my grandfather René Sim Lacaze, who drew for the great houses of the Place Vendôme. The sheet comes first, the stone follows it into the workshop. This handwriting is what makes a bespoke piece from MXHM recognisable.
The best in jewellery does not scale. It begins in a private conversation – at my atelier in Munich's Kunstareal, at your home, or wherever suits you.

Two sapphires, one pair
A pair of oval sapphires, around fourteen carats, matched as one rarely finds them – sourced through my network, built over many years. The decision: curved arms of blued metal, the stone in a closed bezel – and clips instead of posts, so that this weight wears all evening.

The first mala, a year of work
Tanzanite, an amethyst cabochon, a tassel – made with a woman who has crafted malas for three decades. The decision: most of the time went into the stones, because over a hundred positions have to match in colour, size and transition.

Painite, over one carat – one of the rarest minerals on earth, in gold and platinum with champagne diamonds. The decision: a setting that protects the stone on the hand without hiding it.
From the atelier
How your piece is made
It begins with a conversation. You tell me what the piece is meant for. I listen. Then come sketches, the stone, the workshop – and one day, the right moment to hand it over. What you see here is one real commission, from the first pencil line in July to the finished eternity ring in October.
Sometimes the result is in your hands within days. Sometimes I first have to find a stone on the other side of the world – then we work together for months.
What MXHM stands for
Fair sourcing, no compromises. I buy my stones myself – in Asia, South America, Africa and Europe. Every gemstone comes with an independent certificate and a story that can be told. Behind MXHM stands no corporation, only me. I choose the stone, design the piece and direct the specialists who make it – the way an architect answers for the whole house, not for one room. You speak with the person who creates it.
