The way is called Création Personnelle: a first conversation without obligation, then the commission (the fee is credited in full against the making). Four to eight weeks to the finished ring.

From hundreds of designs

As the founder of RENÉSIM I designed several hundred engagement rings, from delicately thin to extravagant, in every metal and with every stone. That experience is in every new ring.

The stone first

Diamond or coloured stone, old cut or newly polished. I choose it – on the market, at the cutters, from my own stock – and show you why it is this one. You decide on the stone before anything is made.

The setting

Proportion, height, the way it wears. A ring worn every day is built differently from one made for the evening. That is the half of the ring no certificate describes.

The discretion

If it is meant to stay a surprise, it stays one. Ring size, appointments and delivery follow your lead.

How your ring comes about

An engagement ring is not a stone with a setting around it. It is a judgement: which stone, which proportion, which construction, which specialist. That judgement is my work, and it begins with your commission – the way one commissions an architect, not the bricklayers.

    The first conversation

    Thirty minutes, without obligation, at the atelier or by video. Who the ring is for, by when, what range you have in mind, what matters to you. By the end we both know whether a Création is the right way.

    The Création

    With your commission the work begins: I find the stone – on the market, at the cutters, in my own stock – and design the ring around it. You receive the stone to look at, the design and a model to wear. The fee is credited in full against the making. I tell you the amount in the first conversation; it becomes binding only with your commission. Should you decide against the making, the design and the research are yours.

    The making

    Setter, goldsmith, where needed cutter and engraver: for each piece I choose the specialists it needs and direct them. No ring leaves the atelier that I have not checked myself.

    The handover

    In the right moment, in the right setting. The first resizing afterwards is included.

What you want to know beforehand

What does a bespoke engagement ring at MXHM cost?
A ring by MXHM starts at around 3,000 euros and is open-ended. The price is made up of the stone, the making and the Création: the selection, the design, the responsibility for the whole. The Création fee is credited in full against the making. I tell you the amount in the first conversation; it becomes binding only with your commission. The range you have in mind we settle there as well.
How does the Création Personnelle work?
First a conversation of about thirty minutes, without obligation. Then you commission MXHM with the Création: I find the stone, design the ring around it and show you both – the stone to look at, the design, a model to wear. After that, the making by the specialists I choose for this piece. Four to eight weeks; longer if a special stone has to be found.
Who chooses the diamond?
I do. You see the stone before it is set, and you decide whether it is the one. The selection itself – which proportions, which origin, which certificate really holds what it promises, which of twenty stones with the same data is the most beautiful – is my work. That is the part you commission MXHM for.
Why is a GIA certificate not enough?
A certificate describes weight, colour, clarity and cut grades. It does not describe how a stone returns light, whether it goes dark in a setting, how large it looks on the hand. Two diamonds with identical reports can look completely different side by side. The certificate is the ticket. The selection begins after it.
Why not simply buy by the 4Cs?
Because the 4Cs sort a stone; they do not judge it. They say nothing about light performance, proportion, fluorescence in daylight, or the difference between 0.95 and 1.00 carat that you pay for but cannot see. The principles behind this I explain gladly and openly. The judgement on one particular stone is part of the Création.
Jeweller or goldsmith – where do I buy an engagement ring?
A goldsmith makes. A jeweller, in the sense my family has understood the word since 1837, answers for the whole: the stone, the design, the choice of setter, cutter and goldsmith for this very piece, and the result. Like an architect who does not lay the bricks himself. At MXHM that responsibility sits in one pair of hands, and nothing leaves the atelier that I have not checked myself.
What makes MXHM different?
Five generations of jewellers, since 1837. As the founder of RENÉSIM I designed several hundred engagement rings. I buy every stone myself, certified and with documented origin, and I answer for the whole ring, not for a part of it. No sales team, no showcase: you speak with the person who creates the ring.
Diamond or coloured stone?
Both. A coloured stone is often more personal and, for the same range, larger and more unusual. A diamond is the classic choice. Which one suits you I usually see in the first conversation.
What if I decide against the making after the Création?
Then the design and the research are yours. The fee paid for that work; it is not a deposit that lapses.
How long does it take?
From first message to finished ring, usually four to eight weeks. Longer if a special stone has to be found. When it has to be fast, there is almost always a way: I once made an engagement ring in three days and delivered it to Rome personally.
I don't know the ring size.
That is the normal case. There are ways to find out without asking, and the first resizing after the handover is included.
Which certificate do I get?
Every diamond from half a carat and every coloured stone comes with an independent certificate: GIA, SSEF, Gübelin or GRS, with origin and treatment status.
